Modular, prefabricated music pods and a larger ensemble rehearsal enclosure into an underutilised area of the campus

The Junior Music School at Camberwell Grammar School isn’t just a new teaching space—it’s a smart, adaptable solution designed for the long term.

The Junior Music School at Camberwell Grammar School isn’t just a new teaching space—it’s a smart, adaptable solution designed for the long term. Working with Harwyn, we used prefabricated modules to deliver high-quality, purpose-built spaces with minimal disruption to the school. This modular approach ensures flexibility, allowing the buildings to be repurposed or relocated as the school’s needs evolve.

The design breaks the functions into smaller modules, creating a village-like feel that fits naturally within the school. The natural slope of the land reinforces this character, giving each module its own presence and creating a sense of connection between spaces. Externally, the materials and colours were chosen to complement the existing campus, allowing the new facility to blend in while maintaining its own identity.

A great example of efficient design, forward-thinking planning, and the value of prefab in education.
