DS Architects has been working with PACCAR Australia since 1976. This relationship reflects our specialist industrial design knowledge and our ability to manage the expectations of global offices across Australia and the United States of America while delivering projects within live sites.
Most recently, our team has undertaken major projects for PACCAR at their main Bayswater North site. Works have included the location of their Australian administration Head Office, Advanced Truck Manufacturing Facility, National Parts Distribution Centre and the dealership in Derrimut. We are working closely with PACCAR to develop a master plan to future-proof the Bayswater site for the next two decades, undertaking projects to streamline operations and ensure the site can continue catering to its 1500+ employees.
PACCAR benefits from our long-term knowledge of their sites and our agile approach to developing feasibility studies, budgets and programs. Delivering projects for an international brand means balancing the requirements of their Australian operations with the aesthetic and operational preferences of their American counterparts, which can often put pressure on delivery timelines. With a long-standing client relationship, we have become adept at working flexibly and are trusted to identify and communicate the risks and opportunities of each project.
Delivering effectively for PACCAR requires achieving both tight project timeframes and buildings that drive quality truck production. Compliance with company design standards is essential — in a sense, PACCAR applies their high-quality manufacturing approach to their built environment expectations. Despite compressed programs, the details are crucial. Having delivered many industrial building typologies, our experienced team effectively mitigates risk through specialised design knowledge.
Our team includes individuals who have worked on the site for decades. This longevity means we could draw on our strong relationship with the client and effectively communicate the complexities of the project to the selected builder. We proactively problem-solved as issues arose, provided continuity and maintained a smooth project delivery process.
Despite the scale of these projects and the complex construction logistics involved, we ensured the client could maintain their operations with minimal disruption during construction while significantly improving efficiency and capacity.
Our design and delivery of these significant works future-proofed the sites and streamlined operations through increased production capacity and the provision of on-site warehousing. Our detailed site knowledge and long-term client relationship saw us act as a strategic link between PACCAR’s sites, departments and international operations, providing invaluable guidance.
