Laverton
Located in an industrial setting between Derrimut and Laverton in Victoria, this site, now a Kenworth dealership, was developed before being acquired by PACCAR. The existing rectangular building comprises a parts warehouse to the rear and the reception and servicing centre towards the front.
In 2020 PACCAR engaged DS Architects to develop a masterplan with the objective of improving the customer experience and distinguishing Kenworth from its competitors through a reinvigorated design that authentically reflected the brand.
Accordingly, our masterplan prioritised the front of the building, increasing the size of the shopfront and related storage facilities, improving the sense of arrival and incorporating an engaging viewing area. It also males provision for an expanded mechanical workshop including an inviting and comfortable lounge area and private sleeping bays allowing drivers to relax while their trucks are serviced.

Since then our brief has evolved to include a review of the entire site to alleviate growing pressure on the associated workshop area, which has been overwhelmed due to the significant increase in truck sales. PACCAR has also acquired an adjoining site to provide additional capacity for holding trucks while they are being serviced or repaired.
The new masterplan is currently being developed and features a dedicated pre-delivery building, as well as other design strategies that will distinguish the pre-delivery zone, streamline and expand the workshop area, while also delivering a welcoming customer experience.
As one of only four Kenworth dealerships in the state, this site will need to maintain operations throughout construction. Therefore, our masterplanning process includes a phased approach to delivery, outlining precisely how each phase will be functionally navigated and when each phase will occur. This includes exploring renting temporary facilities on nearby sites during construction periods to assist with decanting.
