Greenvale Indoor Cricket Centre (GICC) is an integral project for Hume City Council. Located within Greenvale Recreation Reserve the project establishes an elite sport training environment, creating a destination venue that ties the immediate precinct to the surrounding Reserve programs and urban fabric.

The proposed high performance training venue will comprise a 6-lane indoor cricket training facility, performance analysis and administrative rooms including camera motion systems to review bowling and batting actions, breakout foyer space and cafe, change room and public amenities.

Creating a sense of identity

The GICC is an important addition to the Greenvale sports precinct infrastructure, providing both a focal point and an identity for the site. It complements the overall masterplan, developing a strong, integrated sports and recreation destination. The design prioritised the GICC’s facade and its interfaces with the ovals, forecourt and car park to create a distinctive place and welcoming sense of arrival.

Catering to diverse user needs

The program planning accommodates a multi-functional building, where elements of the facility are modified and only operational depending on need. This efficiently caters for the diverse needs of weekday indoor cricket training, weeknight oval training and weekend sports full precinct use. Collectively, the project delivers a vibrant, accessible high-performance asset with the versatility required for full enjoyment by the Greenvale community.

Working with community

We worked collaboratively to develop a design that instilled a characterful identity for the overall precinct, interfaced seamlessly with existing infrastructure and met the high expectations of diverse stakeholders, including Cricket Victoria, Council and the community.

A truly versatile facility

The design prioritises versatility that enables year-round use; the six indoor cricket lanes can be used simultaneously, while the oval hosts a match, with amenities catering to the public. The GICC efficiently accommodates high-volume, multi-functional use, future-proofing it for decades to come.

Maximising the brief

Provided with a predetermined floorplan, our team developed a rationalised design that included six high-performance indoor cricket lanes fitted with motion sensor cameras to track bowling performance and black netting to contrast ball colours, a training facility, cafe, Cricket Victoria meeting rooms, and accessible player amenities that provide for all genders and codes. Beyond the brief, by installing AV technology and including loose, versatile furnishings within the large foyer space, we enhanced what may have become an under-utilised space, providing a valuable, cost-effective community and club presentation space.

A destination for all

Once complete, the GICC will accommodate an increasing local sports appetite whilst also providing a high-performance facility and destination for elite cricket codes, effectively elevating the sports and recreation precinct.

“This project delivers the cricket community the ability to practice their craft throughout all seasons. I think cricket fans will absolutely love it. It is strategically placed to welcome a larger cohort of players.”
